Giving Back to Our Community
For our team at Parker Johnston, supporting our community is almost as important to us as supporting the roofs we build. Generosity is defined as the habit of giving without expecting anything in return. Even without expectations, it is an amazing feeling to see the results and hear the success of your efforts first hand. We couldn’t be happier about some of the kind words that have been written on our Testimonials page.
As you may already know, this year we decided to put our own spin on “Movember” to create “Beardvember”, much to our spouses delight. We thought this would be a great opportunity to raise money for our community and make a difference on a more personal level. We contacted one of our clients, School District #63 (Saanich), who let us know their breakfast and lunch program, that supports many students who would often go without, was in vital need of funding. Rod Parker stepped up and challenged us further (who doesn’t love a good challenge?), offering to match whatever we raised.
We are happy to share with you that we were able to raise $2,180 collectively for this program, which will help support eight elementary schools, along with their Children’s Development Centre. The remaining money we raised, $1000 was distributed anonymously as a random act of kindness to other families in need. We hope to continue this bearded tradition and beat our donations from last year. We’re thinking Octobeards, Beard-tember… the possibilities are endless!
Our commitment to supporting our community doesn’t stop here. Our company also has an “Employee Fund” that has been around as long as we can remember. Each year, our team picks five charities to donate to, with many becoming an annual tradition. This year we were honored to donate $750 each to Our Place, St. Vincent de Paul, Mustard Seed, the Times Colonist Christmas Fund and Woodwynn Farms – providing jackets, much needed funds and other items.
We would like to remain actively involved in our community by making donations to charitable and not-for-profit organizations and by supporting community events. If you think your organization would be a good fit for our community sponsorship, let us know and we will do our best to do our part. Check out our Community Sponsorship page for more information!
